5. PhD in Applied Linguistics Program

• PhD in Applied Linguistics

Our Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics focuses on cultivating experts in language education, assessment, and linguistic data analysis by integrating cutting-edge information technology (IT) into research and practice. The program offers in-depth training in AI-driven language education and assessment, computational and corpus linguistic analysis of spoken and written language, and the development of curricula and digital learning materials. Students also gain expertise in analyzing vocabulary, grammar, and content difficulty, as well as comparing learner proficiency with content difficulty to design personalized language learning programs. Through this comprehensive approach, the program systematically fosters essential research and practical competencies for language education in the digital era.

6. Eligibility Requirements

1) Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• ① Foreign nationals with both parents being foreign nationals
• ② Applicants who have completed the entire regular education curriculum corresponding to elementary, middle, high school, and university education abroad

※ If an applicant fails to graduate by the expected graduation date, admission will be revoked.

3) Language Proficiency Requirement for English Track

Applicants must meet at least one of the following language proficiency qualifications:

• ① TOEFL 530 (CBT 197, iBT 59)
• ② IELTS 6.0(K-Business Administration: IELTS 5.5)
• ③ CEFR B2
• ④ TEPS 600 (New TEPS 202)
• ⑤ Applicants from countries where English is an official language must submit a certificate confirming that their university courses were conducted in English.

8. Important Notes

① The name of the program you are applying for must be clearly stated on the application and study plan.

② The photo should be taken within the last 3 months and uploaded as a scanned jpg file.

③ The "Experience and Special Skills" section should include up to 5 entries, listed in order from the most recent, with detailed and accurate information.

2	Statement of Purpose	▪ Download and complete the Study Plan Form ▪ Write it within 3 pages, print one copy, and submit it.
3	Passport and ID Card	▪ Submit a copy of your passport. ▪ Submit a copy of your Alien Registration Card (for those who have an Alien Registration Card).
4	1 copy of Graduation certificate and transcript (BA or MA degree)	▪ Applicants who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from Korean universities must submit certificates with a valid verification number. ▪ Applicants who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from universities outside of China must submit the original documents with consular verification or apostille (in Korean or English). Applicants who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from Chinese universities must submit a graduation and degree verification report issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education’s Degree Certification Center (中國高等敎育學歷査詢報告). The online certificate (in English) issued from www.chsi.com.cn must be printed and submitted, and the transcript must be notarized by a Chinese notary office.

IGSE does not have dormitories. However, we do provide information and support for students to find a house near our campus so that they can settle in Korea.
